I believe the arrival of a new season is a great time to assess and reflect. Many times, we become accustomed to the day to day routine of the work hustle and/or trying to make our dreams come true. It’s important to take a moment to assess or situation and see if change should be made.
Sometimes change does need to me made. Whether it’s cleaning up, starting a new or continuing our process with a renewed spirit. Today, I share with you four areas of “spring cleaning”.
Clothes
A few weeks ago, I wrote about tips for Spring Organizing to help with the cleaning process. When the seasons change and we are switching out our winter clothes for spring/summer wear, it’s a great time to see if there are clothes that could be tossed. Have you not worn the item for 2 or more seasons? Toss it. Does the item not fit well or flatter your body? Toss it. Does that business suit not suit you anymore (Thought: Dress for the job you want.)? Toss it.
If the items of clothing are in good condition, I suggest donating them to the Goodwill or Dress for Success. Be a blessing to someone else.
Relationships
All relationships, platonic and romantic, should have a purpose in your life. Your relationships should encourage you, support you or help you grow. Obviously this can be done in a variety of ways, such as someone being a listening ear, providing wise counsel or simply laughter. If your relationship doesn’t provide you with any of the above, it’s time to rethink about it’s purpose in your life.
I also want to mention while this may seem selfish, this is not the case. Relationships are a two-way street. So also think about the role you play in your relationships. Do you encourage, support, motivate?
Body
Pool season is around the corner, so many are taking the steps to get fit. In general, whether we want to lose weight, tone or get fit, we should all take steps to be healthy. Being healthy is about eating right and exercising.
If you have a goal in mind, just remember change doesn’t happen overnight. Just stick with it and you will see progress. (I’m learning to take my own advice on this one.)
Goals
Many of us set yearly goals at the beginning of 2012. Have you taken a moment to assess them and see your progress? If not, this is the perfect time to do so. We are five months in to 2012. Are you seeing the changes you hoped for? Do you need to strategize a new way or reorganize some things? Take the time to reflect on your goals. If you’re happy with your progress, keep up the good work!! If you’re not, think about what else you can do to reach your goals. Perhaps the first method didn’t work, but the next one might. Maintain your focus and keep going. You’ll get there.
Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. If we want something, we have to work for it. If it’s not working the way you want it, try something else.
While a new season brings about change in nature, a new season can also bring about a change in ourselves for the better. We have the power to produce change in our lives. Assess. Reflect. Adjust. Repeat.
