The arrival of my September ELLE mag last week, was the signal I needed to let me know that the summer was coming to a close and the joy of fall would soon be here!

I love summer but the cooler yet still pleasant temperature, the color changing foliage and fun fall activities(college homecomings, pumpkin patches, dates by a fireplace) make fall my 2nd favorite season. So with the season rapidly approaching, I decided to compile a list of fall fashion must-haves!

Boots are probably my absolute favorite fall accessory. There’s just so much variety to choose from! Leather ones, suede ones, flat ones, wedge ones, heeled ones, thigh high, ankle, knee-high… you name it, it’s probably out there!

It can take a while to get a good boot collection going, but as long as you buy quality ones, you’ll be able to wear them for years to come. I tried for so long to fight against the Frye boot hype, but after trying a pair last year, I was sold! They’re  a little pricey but the quality is definitely there!

Trench Coats

Trench coats make for perfect transitional outerwear. And they should be a staple for both ladies AND gents. Trench coats are lightweight yet heavy enough to shield you from the crisp fall weather.

Don’t feel like you have to limit yourself to a specific length or the traditional tan color. There are so many options and silhouettes out there, play around!

I absolutely adore cardigans! Hence my somewhat ridiculous collection pictured below.

I get cold easily, so I wear cardigans all year round. But for those of you who don’t, cardigans are perfect for those beginning of fall days when the temperature hasn’t gotten low enough to need that trench coat 🙂

Again, there are so many different colors and styles to choose from that this is really an item that can suit everyone’s wardrobe needs. I also love that you don’t have to spend a fortune on cardigans but can still need the needed quality. Many of the ones in my collection came from H & M.

And did I mention that I love a man in a shawl neck cardigan? Adds a nice touch whether dressed down with jeans and a simple t-shirt or dressed up with a button down and slacks.

Fall colored Beauty

I personally believe that bright colored nail polishes and lipsticks can be worn all year round, but I respect the fact that not everyone shares that sentiment. And if you’re one of those who don’t, fall is the perfect time to bring out the deep berries, forest greens, burnt oranges and blacks!

There’s no denying that fall colors can be pretty sultry. Just take a gander at MAC’s newest fall collection, Styleseeker. Lots of warm tones, right?

Last, but not least we have leather. This fall, leather is about more than just jackets!

*Me in a Line leather jacket with sweater collar*

Obviously leather has been around forever but this trend really began to pick up steam last fall/winter and has exploded even more in the past couple months. Leather pants, skirts and tops are becoming just as important and key as leather jackets. The one downside of leather can be the cost. Try sites like ShopStyle (an awesome website that searches the entire world wide web for any item you enter into the search bar) to find great cost-effective options. Vintage and consignment shops are also great places to find affordable & unique leather pieces.

If the idea of real leather makes you uneasy, there are plenty of “vegan leather” options to choose from as well.

Anything that should be added to this list? What are some of you all’s favorite fall fashion items??
