I love a good themed party. It provides some extra fun and memories. One of my favorite party themes is Kentucky Derby. Why, you ask? The hats!! Perhaps it has something to do with me growing up in church and seeing the older women with big, beautiful, elaborate hats. I loved them!
(Washington Post had a recent article about women and church hats. It’s an interesting read.)
A Kentucky Derby themed party is all about the hats, decor and food. It’s a great theme for a bride shower, engagement party or just because you feel like it.
As some of you may know, the 2012 Kentucky Derby was last weekend and there were some amazing hats to be seen. Below are examples of hats one could wear to a Kentucky Derby themed party. Think big, bold, pretty.
The decor for a Kentucky Derby party is not firm to one design or element. There is so much that you can do with the theme. Here are some decor examples.
And of course, as with any party, you can’t forget about the food and beverages. You can’t have a Kentucky Derby party without mint juleps, ham & biscuits and spring veggies.
Some other items that are Kentucky-known and would be great for a Derby party include:
- Baby Hot Browns
- A Julep Bar
- Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie
- Bourbon Balls
- Any beverage made with bourbon or whiskey
Hope you have a great Kentucky Derby themed party! Let me know how it goes.
