I happen to have a talent of finding great happy hours. They are a great way to try a new place without spending too much money. Plus, happy hours are made for socializing. Well, at least I think so.  In my opinion, a great happy hour is one with drinks and food.

I recently went to happy hour at Cava Mezze Restaurant on Capitol Hill, near Eastern Market. It’s a Greek/Mediterranean cuisine. I love happy hour at Cava! On certain days, they offer more specials than just happy hour. For instance, I went on a Monday and Mondays are always 1/2 off wine bottles. That’s a great special especially when you are dining with a couple of friends.

Cava also has a wide selection of small bites to choose from, $4 house wines, $6 mojitos and $4 beers. The small bites are delicious and sooo filling! Check out the full happy hour menu here. I’m one for good vibes and atmosphere. And Cava fits that bill. The bar is usually always packed and lively, but I always manage to find some seats. Also, the bartenders are friendly — Always a plus in my book.

Upon my visit, I had the mini chicken pita, the Harissa dip, and the cava fries. The fries were so yummy! They were sprinkled with feta cheese and sea salt.

This is a picture of the mini pork pita (from Yelp). I had the chicken pita and devoured it before a pic could be taken.

My friends ordered a few things from the dinner menu when we were there. And I was so happy they did! I was able to try some of Cava’s Fried Calamari and Pork Belly. Both were amazing, but the pork belly — woo, child… I’m still thinking about it. One, it was the biggest serving of pork belly that I’ve seen at any restaurant. And two, it was delicious, especially with the sweet taste of honey.

The amazing pork belly from Cava. It was TWICE this size before the picture was taken.

Cava Mezze is definitely on my list of favorite happy hours to go to. There is one dish there that I have always wanted to try — the Saganaki Cheese Plate. It’s kefalograviera cheese set on fire with lemon and brandy. This is a must upon my next visit.
