Have you ever had a cake pop? If you haven’t, what are you waiting for!? While the whole nation seems to be cupcakes crazed, cake pops are the hottest thing on the horizon! They’re a great way to get the dessert fix you desire without going overboard. They also make great, easy to handle treats for any social gathering.
Just the other day I made a few for a client of mine who was having a launch party for her lipstick line, G.L.A.S.S. Kisses.
I make all my cakes from scratch but it’s not mandatory that you do for this DIY project.
What you’ll need: your fav box cake mix & frosting, candy melts, lollipop sticks
Begin by baking your favorite box cake. Once the cake has cooled all the way, crumble it up and mix in a 1/2 cup of the frosting of your choice. Cover this mixture and refrigerate over night.
Because this project was for a lipstick launch, I decided to use a lip shaped mold to form the pops. However, you can shape them into balls, like the first photo in this post, or pretty much any shape you desire. I’d suggest heading over to Bakerella for some inspiration.
Once you’ve formed your pops, you’ll need to put them in the freezer for 20-30 minutes to set before putting the sticks in them.
Once the pops have been formed and the sticks have been inserted it’s time to decorate your pops using candy melts; which can be found at your local cake supply store or Michael’s craft store. They come in a ton of different colors and can also be flavored.

The melts can be melted in the microwave, over the stove or in a chocolate melting pot like this one from Wilton. I’ve found that the latter produces the best results.
Cake pops may seem like a bit of a process, but trust me they’re worth it and when you get the hang of it, making them definitely gets easier! But if you’d rather just enjoy them, contact us and order up a few. We’d love to cater these trendy treats for your next event!
